Somebody's gotta take out the trash and that somebody is everybody
It’s silly to have the garbage truck stop at every house when almost all of us have legs. Community drop off locations like they have in campgrounds would be better.
Life should be more like camping, but unlike most campgrounds, we would intentionally make parking difficult at the garbage cages. This would not only save pavement, but also encourage people to get out walking in their neighbourhoods. This has obvious and less obvious benefits ranging from security to health care to economy.
But who likes walking with garbage? Nobody. (Why are we answering our own rhetorical question?) Especially a big dripping bag of garbage – who likes carrying that? That’s why people will begin to produce less garbage and compost anything that drips.
The biggest advantage of them all is that you might meet your next sweetheart there at the heap. Unlikely? More likely than while pushing the bins to the back lane in sweat pants.
